Wessman - KAAÅS

Annemarie Åström, violin - Tiina Karakorpi, piano - Hanna Pakkala, viola - Ulla Lampela, cello

Wessman's naive chamber music colors Harri Wessman's (born in 1949) pedagogical music is performed a lot, but as a composer he has remained somewhat outsider. The reason may be that already in the 70s, Wessman declared the "emotional side of music". However, the KAAÅS -trio's new record of Wessman's piano chamber music reveals that Wessman's colorful, "neo-pathetic" tonality has endured well over time. Finnish Violin Music, Leiviskä - Melartin - Raitio

Annemarie Åström, violin -Tiina Karakorpi, piano - Atte Kilpeläinen, viola - Tomas Nunez-Garces & Ulla Lampela, cello

Väinö Raition's modernism inspires Finnish compositions of the 1920s on an enlightening album * * * * "All the isms merge into a personal and refreshing expression." (translated from Finnish) - Veijo Murtomäki / Helsingin Sanomat 22.11.2017

Review in Turun Sanomat "Väinö Raitio's music is often characterised as difficult to understand, but Åström together with pianist Tiina Karakorpi conjure charming characters from miniature duos." (translated from Finnish) - Aija Haapalainen / Turun Sanomat 3.1.2018

French breeze in 1929s Finland "A welcome addition to the record shelf." (translated from Swedish) - Wilhelm Kvist / Hufvudstadsbladet, 24.1.2018

Johannes Brahms - F.A.E. Sonata, Two sonatas op. 120

Annemarie Åström, violin - Terhi Dostal, piano

The Strad "Elegant, spontaneous Brahms in period-influenced performances" Robin Stowell, 1. Nov 2013 www.thestrad.com

The Listener review "The enthusiasm continues when Annemarie Åström plays on her Guarneri violin (with gut strings) on permanent loan from the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki. She is also a fabulous and dynamically sensitive performer with almost flawless intonation and a stunningly beautiful tone. Yes above all: Dostal and Åström are a real team. They play so wonderfully musically together that it is a sheer joy to listen to them." (translated from German) von Rainer Aschemeier, 6. Juni 2013 www.incoda.de/listerner

An incomparable listening experience "Violin sonatas by Brahms have always enjoyed their place among the standards of the genre and are frequenty heard in many locations, though rarely in that one place where Brahms often spent time, and certainy not at all on the instrument he himself played there. But it is precisely this that gives the present recording one of its especially interesting features: a recording made on the original Brahms grand piano in one of the places crucial to the composer's work. How often does the opportunity arise to hear a composition sounding essentially as the composer himself heard it?" - T2 Entertainment www.t2entertainment

Nordic Violin Music, Tschetschulin - Aulin - Sinding - Carlson

Annemarie Åström, violin - Sonja Fräki & Emil Holmström, piano

The violin humming romantically "Enchanting Nordic violin romance that offers discoveries to the general public and experts... a star moment in our music history." (translated from Finnish) - Veijo Murtomäki / Helsingin Sanomat 9.1.2013

Recording of the year HBL "I also fall for Annemarie Åström's tasty album of Nordic violin rarities... The playing is lyrical, tasteful and sympathetic." (translated from Swedish) - Wilhelm Kvist / Hufvudstadsbladet 9.12.2012

Illuminating performances of a neglected area of repertoire "Åström brings emotional agitation to the Idyll and a happy mixture of muscularity and lightness to the energetic final Polska, and gives a particularly fine performance of the Vaggsång - sotto voce, pliant and affecting." - Tim Homfray / The Strad, March 2013.
