My name is Annemarie Åström and I am a freelance violinist from Finland.

I am a versatile violinist. I work actively as a chamber and orchestra musician, a soloist, and a teacher.

I got interested in playing the violin when I was 3 years old, after seeing the program Viuluviikarit ihmeamaassa on TV. I remember how I admired the little violinists and thought that if I played the violin too, the blue bear would come and give me candy, just like in the wonderful fairy tale world of the Fiddlers. It's fun to remember those times, especially since nowadays many of the violinists from Viuluviikarit are good friends of mine.

At the moment, I am actively working as a versatile violinist in various chamber music groups, as artistic leader for the Wegelius Strings, as a musician in different orchestras and teaching positions. I had a permanent position in the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra as a conductor for a few years. Even though this was a rewarding time, despite everything, I feel that being a freelancer is the best fit for me. It frees up my creativity and gives me more opportunities to express myself.

I am specially interested to combine different art forms together. To work with actors, writers and for example dancers gives me a lot of joy and inspiration!

When I'm not playing the violin, I spend time with my family in a red wooden house in Kirkkonummi in the peace of nature.

KAAÅS Trio

KAAÅS - the trio played their debut concert at the Nurmijärvi Music Days in spring 2011. Pianist Tiina Karakorpi and violinist Annemarie Åström had been playing as a duo together for about twenty years. They came up with the idea of asking a like-minded, lively and sensitive musician - cellist Ulla Lampela seemed like a natural choice. The members of the trio are also united by their own small children, and there is always a small, positive chaos around them. Creativity is born from chaos!
